Grey reef sharks are apex predators of Indo-Pacific coral reefs, patrolling the reef edge and channel margins to control populations of reef fish, octopus, and crustaceans. They are highly attuned to current-driven food delivery and congregate at corners like Guraidhoo where tidal flows concentrate prey items. Their presence is a strong indicator of reef ecosystem health as they require substantial prey biomass to sustain local populations.
