Green sea turtles are among the most charismatic residents of the Yongala, drawn by the abundant algae and invertebrates that colonise the wreck's steel surfaces. Multiple individuals are typically present throughout the dive, resting on the superstructure or feeding on encrusting growth with methodical bites. Their long association with divers at this site has made them extraordinarily approachable, often choosing to swim alongside dive groups for minutes at a time.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
