European lobster are year-round residents of The Gully, sheltering under ledges and in crevices along both walls. The reserve's no-take status has produced individuals of exceptional size — carapace lengths over 15 cm and animals estimated at 25 to 30 years old are documented here. They are most active at dawn and dusk, foraging for invertebrates and carrion along the gully floor. Moulting animals are occasionally found in shallower areas in late summer.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
