European lobster are found throughout the rocky crevices and boulder fields around Henningsvær's reefs, typically emerging at dusk and through the night to forage on molluscs, worms, and carrion. Adults can live for over 70 years in Norwegian waters and reach weights of several kilograms in protected areas, their deep blue-black armour stunning against the pale substrate. The cold water slows their metabolism and growth but results in animals of exceptional size and age in areas with limited fishing pressure.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
