Atlantic Wolf Fish

Anarhichas lupus

Sighting evidence at Wuddy Rocks, St. Abbs Head

Wolf fish at Wuddy Rocks are habituated to divers and regularly observed at close range in the crevices at 15 to 22 m depth. They are among the most charismatic cold-water fish in British diving, with wide-set fang-like teeth evolved for crushing sea urchins and shellfish. Their populations at St. Abbs are notably healthy compared to fished areas, and the same individuals have been documented in the same dens across multiple years by local dive guides.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
