Atlantic Wolf Fish

Anarhichas lupus

Sighting evidence at Agdenes Wreck, Trondheim Fjord

Wolf fish are apex invertebrate predators of the cold Norwegian fjords, using their powerful crushing teeth to crack sea urchins, crabs, and mussels. They are resident nesters — pairs guard egg clusters on the seabed throughout winter — and individuals return to the same den year after year, making the Agdenes wreck portholes reliable sighting spots. Their anti-freeze proteins allow activity at water temperatures near 0°C.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
