Reef mantas are reliably encountered at cleaning stations off Bequia's north coast, where they hover motionless for minutes at a time as wrasse and butterflyfish remove parasites from their gill plates and skin. Individual mantas are identifiable by their unique spot patterns on their white ventral surfaces, and long-term monitoring has documented a resident population of at least 15 named individuals. Their aggregations peak during the cooler months when plankton blooms are most intense and cleaning station activity is highest.

Reef Manta Ray is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
