Bequia Pelagic Sites
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines · Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
The deep-water channel between Bequia and St. Vincent funnels nutrient-rich upwelling from the Atlantic into the Caribbean, making the waters around Bequia's northern and eastern coasts a seasonal hotspot for large pelagic species that rarely approach other Caribbean islands. From April through June, migrating humpback whales use this corridor as a calving and nursing ground, and encounters during dives or snorkels in the channel are possible when conditions align. Reef manta rays are resident year-round at several cleaning stations off Bequia's north coast, while whale sharks occasionally appear on the eastern drop-offs between April and May when plankton concentrations peak.
