Caribbean reef sharks patrol the deeper sections of Mustique Wall between 20 and 35 metres, drawn by the elevated fish biomass that results from very low fishing pressure around this private island. Individuals of 1.5–2 metres are commonly encountered and show little wariness toward divers, often making repeated passes on a single dive. Their abundance here is a strong indicator of ecosystem health, as this species disappears rapidly from reefs subject to fishing pressure.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
