Nassau grouper are recovering at Tobago Cays after decades of overfishing reduced populations across the wider Caribbean to near-functional extinction in many areas. The park's protection has allowed adults to reach impressive sizes of 50–70 cm and to maintain the seasonal spawning aggregations that were historically exploited by fishers. Their presence in large numbers is one of the clearest ecological indicators of the park's management effectiveness.
