Longfin batfish congregate in loose schools beneath Chebeh's granite overhangs, hovering in the filtered light in a behaviour that makes them remarkably approachable for divers. Juveniles mimic dead leaves drifting in the current, a camouflage strategy that transitions to open-water schooling as they mature. They serve as important mid-trophic prey for large pelagics and as cleaners that remove parasites from larger fish species.

Batfish is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
