Bigeye trevally form enormous bait-ball-style schools at Tiger Reef, a collective anti-predator strategy that confuses larger pelagics trying to single out individuals. The schools rotate continuously around the pinnacle, following current lines and feeding opportunistically on smaller reef fish. Their sheer numbers create one of Tioman's most dramatic visual spectacles, particularly during the peak season from April through August.

Bigeye Trevally is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
