Whitetip reef sharks are nocturnal hunters that spend daylight hours resting in Tiger Reef's deeper crevices and overhangs, often in groups of three to eight individuals stacked together. At dusk they become highly active predators, cooperatively flushing reef fish from cracks in the substrate. Their presence alongside blacktips at Tioman reflects a diverse, apex-predator-rich ecosystem in good health.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
