Glassy sweepers form dense copper-coloured shoals of thousands of fish in the cave-like overhangs and crevices between the Bookends pinnacles. Their large eyes and compressed body shape are adaptations to life in dim, sheltered habitats. At dusk they migrate out onto the reef to feed on zooplankton, and a timed night dive during this mass emergence is one of the most dramatic spectacles the site offers.

Glassy sweeper is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
