Two-banded seabream are the most abundant sparid in the Tremiti reserve and at La Vedova they form schools of hundreds that envelope the entire pinnacle, moving with the shifting current. They feed on a wide range of small invertebrates and are a critical prey species for the larger predators the reserve is most famous for. Their extraordinary numbers here reflect decades of protection and the resulting recovery of the wider food web.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
