White seabream

Diplodus sargus

Sighting evidence at Punta Secca, Tremiti Islands

One of the most abundant and visible fish in the Tremiti reserve, white seabream form large aggregations over rocky reef and posidonia transitions. They are omnivores, grazing on encrusting organisms and small invertebrates, and play a significant role in structuring benthic communities through their grazing pressure. The reserve protects them from fishing, and individuals grow to exceptional size — over 40 cm — making the shoals at Punta Secca far larger than on fished mainland reefs.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
