Caroni Mangrove Dive
Trinidad · Trinidad and Tobago
The Caroni Swamp on Trinidad's west coast is one of the Caribbean's most unusual dive environments — a nutrient-rich mangrove estuary where visibility is low but the biomass is extraordinary, with tarpon rolling in silver clouds and snook hanging motionless beneath prop roots. The Orinoco outflow enriches these waters with plankton, drawing baitfish and the predators that follow them into a genuinely wilderness setting accessible by boat from Port of Spain. This is macro and wide-angle photography at its most atmospheric, where shafts of filtered green light illuminate mangrove roots encrusted with oysters, sea squirts, and juvenile reef fish.
