European Ling

Molva molva

Sighting evidence at Agdenes Wreck, Trondheim Fjord

Ling are slender deep-water cod relatives that haunt Norwegian wreck structures, using the shelter to ambush smaller fish. Adults can exceed 1.5 m and are drawn to the Agdenes wreck by the rich invertebrate communities covering the hull. In spring, ling gather in large numbers as water temperatures rise, making March through May especially productive for sightings.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
