Norway King Crab

Paralithodes camtschaticus

Sighting evidence at Agdenes Wreck, Trondheim Fjord

Introduced to the Barents Sea in Soviet times and now expanding southward into Trondheim waters, red king crab patrol the sandy seabed around the wreck at night and in low-light conditions. Their leg spans can exceed 1.5 m, and they are commonly found sheltering under hull plates. They are apex scavengers whose expansion is closely monitored by Norwegian marine managers.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
