The largest Atlantic moray species thrives in Salt River's crevice-rich canyon walls, with individuals exceeding 2 metres regularly encountered by divers. Their uniformly olive-green colouration comes from a yellow mucus coating over dark skin rather than actual pigmentation. Green morays fill an important ecological role as nocturnal ambush predators, controlling populations of small fish and crustaceans that shelter in the same reef crevices.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
