Giant morays shelter within the rusted cavities of abandoned machinery, emerging at night to hunt fish and crustaceans using an extraordinary second set of jaws in their throat called pharyngeal jaws. They play a key predatory role keeping reef fish populations in balance, and often cooperate with hunting grouper in a remarkable cross-species feeding partnership.
