Silvertips patrol the wall's deeper sections, their white-tipped fins unmistakable as they cruise the current lines hunting tuna, reef fish, and squid. As apex predators, they regulate the behavior and distribution of mid-level predators, preventing overgrazing of herbivore populations that maintain healthy coral cover — a cascade effect essential to the reef's structural integrity.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
