Thriving
Okinawa Main Island
Japan · Pacific
Okinawa Main Island's west coast is a macro and muck diver's paradise, stretching from the iconic Sunabe Seawall through blue-water caverns at Cape Maeda and dramatic wall dives at Zanpa Point. Ghost pipefish, frogfish, sea horses, and nudibranchs pack sandy slopes and rubble patches year-round, while the cavern system at Cape Maeda floods with shafts of filtered light that reward wide-angle photographers. Warm Kuroshio Current water keeps conditions accessible ten months of the year.
