Dentex dentex

Sighting evidence at Karaburun Peninsula Marine Reserve, Albania

Schools of common dentex patrol the blue water above Karaburun's deep wall between April and October, hunting in wolf-pack formations that scatter mackerel and bogue in every direction. Dentex are one of the most prized Mediterranean sport fish and their abundance in the reserve highlights the ecological value of fishing exclusion zones. They feed most actively around dawn and dusk, and divers who descend the wall at first light often encounter hunting schools at close range in the low-visibility blue.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
