Forests of yellow gorgonian fans up to 60 cm across cover the sheltered north-facing walls of the cape's outer islets from 15 metres down, thriving in the particulate-rich surge water. Tiny colourful gobies and clingfish perch on the fan branches, using the colony for shelter and as a vantage point for ambushing passing zooplankton. Their presence alongside red gorgonians and encrusting sponges creates a colour palette that rewards wide-angle photography.
