MV Andes
Antigua and Barbuda · Antigua and Barbuda
The MV Andes, a 90-metre steel-hulled cargo vessel deliberately sunk in the late 1980s, now rests upright on a sandy bottom at 18 metres in English Harbour, its superstructure rising to just 5 metres below the surface and completely smothered in orange cup corals, purple sea fans, and encrusting sponges. The wreck is fully penetrable for qualified divers, with the engine room, cargo holds, and wheelhouse all accessible, each hosting its own community of glassfish, cardinalfish, and darting juvenile damselfish. Large green morays have colonised the lower decks while spotted eagle rays are regularly seen cruising the sandy perimeter.
