Caribbean spiny lobsters shelter in the darker interior spaces of the Vixen throughout the day, their antennae protruding from doorways and gun ports in classic defensive posture. At night they emerge to forage across the sandy areas surrounding the wreck, feeding on invertebrates and small molluscs. Bermuda maintains a commercial lobster fishery that excludes the protected wreck sites, meaning the populations here are notably larger and less wary than in fished areas.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
