Cuttlefish hunt the sandy corridors between sponge clusters, ambushing shrimp and small fish with their rapid tentacle strike. Their chromatophore displays become particularly elaborate during the spring breeding season when males display to females between sponge formations. They are keystone mid-trophic predators linking the invertebrate and fish communities of the plateau.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
