Wreck of the Ulysses
Djerba · Tunisia
A steel cargo vessel resting upright on a sandy seabed at 28 metres, the Ulysses has been colonised by dense encrusting sponges, gorgonian fans, and thick mats of bryozoans that have transformed the hull into an artificial reef. Schools of two-banded sea bream and comber swirl around the superstructure while moray eels occupy every gap in the corroding metalwork. The wreck is penetrable at several points, revealing intact cargo holds now inhabited by cuttlefish that hover motionless in the torchlight.
