Dalvík Wall
Eyjafjörður · Iceland
The underwater cliffs off the small fishing town of Dalvík plunge through dramatic columns of ancient lava, their basalt faces draped in feathery hydroids, dead man's fingers coral, and vivid orange breadcrumb sponges. Nudibranchs of extraordinary variety cling to the rock faces throughout the year, drawing macro photographers from across Europe. The wall descends to a gravel and rubble slope at 28 metres where large Atlantic halibut rest motionless on the seafloor.
