Cabo Vilán Reef
Galicia · Spain
Cabo Vilán is one of the most exposed capes on the Costa da Morte, where the full force of the North Atlantic meets a submerged granite plateau riddled with gullies, arches, and swim-throughs down to 35 m. In calm summer conditions the site opens up to reveal extraordinary biodiversity — ballan wrasse the size of a child's forearm, prolific jewel anemones on every rock face, and common dolphins that regularly join divers at the surface. The cape's position on a major cetacean migration corridor means that fin and minke whales are occasionally sighted from the surface during summer liveaboard trips.
