Jewel Anemone

Corynactis viridis

Sighting evidence at Cabo Vilán Reef, Galicia

Jewel anemones carpet exposed rock faces at Cabo Vilán in dense colonies of vivid pink, orange, green, and white, creating what Galician divers describe as stained-glass windows on the reef. Although they resemble tiny anemones they are actually colonial anthozoans more closely related to corals, and their colour depends on symbiotic algae and local water chemistry.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
