Shoals of yellowfin tuna blast through the water column at Jesser Point during peak productivity months from October to February, corralling baitfish against the surface in explosive feeding frenzies visible from the dive boat. These fast-moving pelagics reach 1.5 metres and create a spectacular contrast with the slower, more stately mantas and sharks sharing the same water. Their presence triggers a cascade of opportunistic feeding by smaller reef predators including trevally and barracuda.

Yellowfin Tuna is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
