Large pollock gather mid-water along the Jørpeland wall in schools of dozens, feeding on the sprat and sand eel drawn to the current-swept structure. In summer months juveniles form dense bait balls near the surface that attract diving gannets from above and pollock from below simultaneously. Their metallic green-bronze flanks catching the filtered fjord light makes them one of the most photogenic large fish in Norwegian diving.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
