Underwater at Papagayo Bay Angel Shark

Papagayo Bay Angel Shark

Dive site

Papagayo Bay sits at Lanzarote's southernmost tip inside the Chinijo Archipelago nature zone, where the Canary Current sweeps around the headland and deposits a series of sandy channels between volcanic ridges at 10 to 24 m. This is one of Europe's most reliable sites for Atlantic angel shark encounters — the Canary Islands Shark Research group has tagged individuals here repeatedly, and resting sharks are found on virtually every morning dive from October through April. Moray eels emerge from crevices after dark, making Papagayo one of Lanzarote's premier night dives as well.
