Green turtles are a near-constant presence inside Molokini Crater, grazing on the abundant limu (algae) that grows on the sheltered basalt ledges and frequently resting on sandy patches between foraging bouts. The Hawaiian population has grown significantly since protections were introduced, and Molokini's calm interior makes it one of the most reliable encounter spots in the Pacific.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
