Oceanic whitetips move through the outer channel during the cooler northeast monsoon period, drawn by the concentration of baitfish that shelter in the temperature break. They are bold, persistent sharks that will approach divers closely and circle repeatedly, requiring calm, controlled behaviour and a watchful buddy. Their rounded white-tipped fins are immediately distinctive and sightings add genuine pelagic wildness to what is already an outstanding open-water experience.
