Entrance Bommie
Osprey Reef · Australia
The Entrance Bommie sits at the southern pass where oceanic currents funnel into the Osprey lagoon, creating a nutrient-rich upwelling that attracts large pelagics including the atoll's most celebrated visitor: the oceanic whitetip shark. These open-ocean predators are rare at most reef dive sites but appear with reliable regularity at this site, drawn by the fish aggregations that thrive in the current channel. The bommie itself is a coral-encrusted pinnacle rising from 30 metres that provides a focus point for fish life and a reference for divers managing the frequently strong current.
