Schools of yellowfin tuna pass through the open water adjacent to North Reef during the northeast monsoon transition months of October and November, chasing baitfish aggregations triggered by upwelling. Sightings are brief but dramatic — dense silver masses of tuna moving at speed through the blue water at the reef's edge. Their presence is a seasonal reminder of Pigeon Island's position within a productive pelagic corridor.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
