Palikir Pass
Pohnpei · Federated States of Micronesia
Palikir Pass is one of several breaks in Pohnpei's barrier reef where tidal exchange concentrates nutrients and pelagics into a defined channel, creating reliable shark and large-fish encounters within a 20 minute boat ride from the capital. The pass walls drop from 5 meters to beyond 30, with the strongest current typically running during incoming tides when grey reef and whitetip sharks stack up in the channel to feed. It is the most accessible blue-water dive on Pohnpei and often serves as an orientation site for visiting divers before they venture further to Kehpara or Ant Atoll.
