Capo Caccia Wall
Capo Carbonara · Italy
The outer cliff face of Capo Caccia plunges 170 metres above sea level before continuing as a near-vertical underwater wall to beyond recreational diving limits — from the surface to 40 metres it is a textbook Mediterranean wall covered in yellow and orange encrusting sponges, red gorgonians, and fields of noble pen shells anchored in the sandy ledges. Schools of damselfish and rainbow wrasse swarm the shallower sections while large amberjack and dentex patrol the blue water off the wall face. The site is inside the Capo Caccia marine reserve and sees noticeably higher fish biomass than nearby unprotected coasts.
