Greater amberjack are the signature pelagic encounter at Capo Caccia, patrolling the wall face in groups of 5 to 30 at mid-water depths between 15 and 30 metres. They are highly mobile, covering large distances across the marine reserve and returning predictably to productive wall sections. Their speed and aggression when hunting is dramatic to witness — they are capable of short bursts exceeding 60 kilometres per hour when pursuing prey.
