Dakar Artificial Reef
Senegal · Senegal
A purpose-sunk reef structure off Dakar's Almadies peninsula has become one of West Africa's most productive diving sites in just a few years, with schooling jacks swirling in tight formations and nurse sharks patrolling the rubble between concrete modules. The structure sits in 15 to 28 metres of water and already hosts a diverse assemblage of reef fish, moray eels threading between blocks, and octopus in every concealed corner. Visibility is often exceptional during the harmattan season, rewarding wide-angle photographers with dramatic scenes of marine life reclaiming human-made habitat.
