Nudibranch

Flabellina pedata

Sighting evidence at Jørpeland Wall, Trondheim Fjord

The Jørpeland wall hosts an exceptional diversity of nudibranchs, with Flabellina pedata among the most striking — its purple-tipped cerata glowing against white anemone colonies. Cold Norwegian waters support much higher nudibranch diversity than warmer Atlantic sites, with species hunting hydroids across the wall's entire depth range. Spring through early summer is peak season when hydroids bloom and nudibranch spawning aggregations form on exposed rock faces.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
