Skomer Island
Wales (Pembrokeshire) · United Kingdom
Skomer Island in St Brides Bay is a National Nature Reserve above the waterline and one of Wales's most celebrated dive sites below it, famous for breeding cuttlefish aggregations in May and June that draw divers from across Britain. Grey seals haul out on the island's boulder beaches year-round and escort divers through kelp forest corridors with remarkable boldness. The tompot blenny — an expressive, curious fish with elaborate eye tufts — is so abundant here that it has become a signature species of the site, peering from every crevice.
