Saddled Bream
Oblada melanura
Sighting evidence at Xygia Reef, Zakynthos
Tight shoals of saddled bream circle the outer boulders and posidonia edges at Xygia, their black tail spots flashing silver in the sunlight. They are a key mid-water species linking the reef's invertebrate-rich benthos to larger predators such as dentex and amberjack that patrol the open water column nearby.
