Tight shoals of saddled bream circle the outer boulders and posidonia edges at Xygia, their black tail spots flashing silver in the sunlight. They are a key mid-water species linking the reef's invertebrate-rich benthos to larger predators such as dentex and amberjack that patrol the open water column nearby.
