Pabuç Burnu Wreck Site
Bodrum · Turkey
The waters around Pabuç Burnu (Slipper Point) hold scattered ancient amphora fields and the remains of Bronze Age and Byzantine trading vessels that sank on the rocky headland, making this the archaeological heart of Bodrum's legendary underwater heritage. Much of the original material was excavated and is now displayed in the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, but the seafloor still shows amphora sherds and hull remnants colonised by encrusting organisms. Conger eels, grouper, and large dentex inhabit the deeper wreck structure while the surrounding reef supports exceptional biodiversity.
