Spring brings large aggregations of cuttlefish into the bay to court and lay eggs on rocky outcrops, producing some of the most mesmerising colour-change displays in Mediterranean diving. Males spar with rivals while displaying hypnotic wave-like patterns along their mantles. Females deposit clusters of ink-black eggs on gorgonian branches and rocky ledges in April and May.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
