Dentex

Dentex dentex

Sighting evidence at Es Vedrà, Ibiza and Formentera

Large dentex cruise the deeper sections of Es Vedrà's walls, often seen between 25 and 45 m where the reef meets the open water column. These charismatic predators are bolder here than at more dived sites, occasionally approaching to investigate divers. Their appearance signals a healthy reef food web with sufficient prey biomass to sustain apex predators.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
