Seahorses inhabit the posidonia meadows of Xarraca Bay from spring through autumn, clinging to seagrass stems and gorgonian stalks with their prehensile tails. Males brood eggs in an abdominal pouch, and pregnant males are sometimes encountered drifting through the meadow in the late summer months. Their presence depends entirely on the health of the posidonia habitat — finding one here is a living indicator of ecosystem quality.

Long-snouted Seahorse is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
